History
Historical Background
It was back in 1988 when Pierre Semaan, then 25, left for Nigeria to start a 20-year career path in trade and development.
At the time, the young man, a graduate of Lansdowne College in London, wanted to explore opportunities for growth away from a war torn homeland, Lebanon.
Following five years of roll-up sleeve experience with cocoa beans and timber export, and in the trade of fumigants, pharmaceuticals, and electronics in Lagos, Mr.Semaan came back to Lebanon to found a business in the food industry.
Things in Lebanon at the time were difficult to cope with amidst tensed politics and a stagnant economy. In 1997, Pierre packed up and left Lebanon again, this time for Albania.
Albania consumed ten good years of Pierre’s business and personal life. It was worth it though. He was able to establish a wide network of connections that resulted in
co-founding and chairing, for three consecutive terms, the presidency of The Foreign Investors Association of Albania (FIAA).
The Prime Minister of Albania appointed Mr.Semaan Executive Director of both, the Country Economy Team (CET) and the Business Advisory Council (BAC).
Pierre’s main experience was in the production and trade of Cement. The Cement Industry in Albania, along with the Oil production industry, would form the backbone of the Albanian economy for a long time.
For five years, Mr.Semaan was General Manager of Seament-Albania, a company that had employed one thousand staff in late nineties.
In late 2003, and while he was still in the Balkans, Pierre established “Quality Services”, a company in the Contracting and Construction Industry, and “Protrade”, an export company. Protrade focused on exporting consumables from Lebanon to Albania.
Comes late 2006, Pierre felt it was time to come back to Lebanon, enjoy family life with his wife and two teenagers children. He wanted to develop his two companies and explore growth opportunities for them. In this context, Protrade became the sole agent for “Body and Soul” cosmetic products for the MENA region. Protrade now operates franchises for the said product in Lebanon, Jordan, Qatar, Sultanate of Oman, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Bahrain.
